Royal Rangers, youth organization
Royal Rangers is a youth organization for boys from kindergarten through high school, operating across the United States and in more than 90 countries worldwide. The program combines outdoor activities such as camping and hiking with faith lessons and practical skills training in areas like first aid and wilderness techniques.
Royal Rangers was founded in 1962 by Reverend Johnnie Barnes to help young men deepen their faith and character. The organization grew rapidly through summer camps beginning in 1964 and established its main national training center, Camp Eagle Rock, in Missouri in 1986.
Royal Rangers reflects values rooted in Christian faith and personal growth for young men. The program creates spaces where boys experience community belonging through shared activities and learn to serve others as part of their daily practice.
Boys join through local church groups that organize meetings and activities in their communities. The best time to get involved is at the start of the school year when troops recruit new members and explain what they offer to young people.
Royal Rangers uses an emblem shaped like a compass with colors representing different types of growth: gold for mental and physical development, red for core faith values, and blue for moral standards. This distinctive design sets the organization apart from other youth movements.
