Bluebird Gap Farm, Educational farm and zoo in Hampton, Virginia.
Bluebird Gap Farm is an educational farm and zoo located on Pine Chapel Road in Hampton, Virginia. The property holds a mix of domestic livestock, native wildlife, and birds, each kept in separate enclosures or open habitat areas across the grounds.
The farm opened in 1966 under the name Old MacDonald's Farm, near Hampton Coliseum. It moved to its current location three years later, starting fresh with a collection of 105 animals.
The old barn on the property displays tools and everyday objects from past farming life. Walking through it gives a clear sense of how rural families once lived and worked in this part of Virginia.
Admission is free and the grounds are open daily. Feed dispensers are placed around the property so visitors can get close to the animals and feed them directly.
The Azalea Trail runs along Newmarket Creek and is one of the less noticed parts of the property, where visitors can spot local plants and wildlife right at the water's edge. The Powhatan Pavilion on the grounds can also be used to host gatherings in an open-air setting.
