Jizzakh Region, Administrative region in central Uzbekistan
Jizzakh Region is an administrative area in central Asia stretching between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan with diverse landscapes. The area includes extensive agricultural lands across plains and mountain ranges of the Turkestan system at higher elevations.
The territory became a separate administrative region in the 1970s after being divided from a larger administrative unit. This reorganization was part of Soviet administrative changes in Central Asia during that period.
The region preserves long-standing farming practices passed down through generations, especially in cotton and wheat cultivation across the fertile valleys. The irrigation systems visible throughout shape daily life and connect local communities to their land.
Visitors should know the region consists of two very different parts: flat agricultural areas and mountainous regions. Planning should depend on what you want to explore, as travel times and conditions vary between these zones.
An important nature reserve in the region shelters rare bird species and other wildlife across mountain landscapes. This protected area serves as a refuge for species that are otherwise difficult to find in the surroundings.
