Khe Sanh Combat Base, Military airbase in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam.
Khe Sanh Combat Base is a former military airfield in Quang Tri Province near the Laotian border. The grounds contain preserved runway sections, concrete bunkers, and displays of military vehicles and weapons from the conflict.
The base was founded in 1962 and faced one of the war's most intense sieges in 1968. For weeks, defending forces endured relentless bombardment from surrounding enemy forces.
The site contains personal belongings and everyday objects from soldiers who lived and worked here during the conflict. Visitors can sense how people coped and endured in such extreme conditions.
The site is best visited through organized tours from Hue, since the location is remote and roads are rough. Wear sturdy shoes because the ground is uneven and can be muddy in wet seasons.
The original runway is still visible where supply planes once landed under heavy gunfire during the siege. These desperate landings kept the surrounded troops alive with food and ammunition.
