Rasuwa

Rasuwa is an administrative district in Bagmati Province featuring varied mountain terrain with significant elevation changes. The land rises from deep valleys to high ridges and is divided into five rural municipalities that serve local communities.

The name comes from Tibetan words meaning sheep and grazing, reflecting the region's history as a herding area. This pastoral heritage shaped how settlements developed and how people used the mountain landscapes.

The Tamang people form the backbone of daily life here, their language and customs visible throughout the settlements. Buddhism shapes the spiritual landscape, evident in prayer flags and small shrines scattered across villages.

Most visitors reach the district by bus from Kathmandu traveling on a main mountain highway. The best time to visit is during dry seasons when mountain roads are most reliable and accessible.

The district contains sections of a major national park with protected mountains and a mountain lake known to pilgrims. These protected lands offer a sharp contrast to the inhabited valleys where most settlements cluster.
