Ganesh NW, Mountain summit in Gorkha District, Nepal
Ganesh NW is a mountain summit in Gorkha District that rises to 7,118 meters above sea level. The peak features steep rock faces and glaciated slopes positioned between the Budhi Gandaki and Trisuli Gandaki valleys.
The peak was first climbed in 1981 when German-Sherpa and Japanese-Sherpa teams reached the summit on the same day. This shared achievement by two separate expeditions marked a significant moment in the mountain's exploration history.
The peak belongs to the Ganesh Himal range, named after the Hindu deity Ganesha. Communities in the valleys below continue their traditional ways of life tied to this mountain landscape.
Expeditions require technical climbing skills and experience with mixed terrain of rock, snow, and ice. Base camps are established in the Gorkha region before attempting the summit.
The peak rises dramatically from the surrounding landscape, gaining about 5,800 meters in elevation over just 16 kilometers of horizontal distance. This extreme steepness makes it one of the most dramatic mountain ascents in the Himalaya region.
