Manaslu Conservation Area

The Manaslu Conservation Area is a large protected zone in Gorkha District that extends from low valleys to high peaks, containing different ecosystems within its boundaries. The landscape shifts from green forests in lower sections to bare rock walls and snow fields at higher elevations.

The area was designated as a protection zone by the Nepalese government in 1998 to preserve nature and its resources for the long term. This decision marked an important step in balancing human use with conservation in the region.

The people living here speak Tibetan and Nepali dialects and follow seasonal patterns rooted in their environment. Walking through villages, you notice traditional stone houses and terraced fields that reflect a way of life shaped by the mountains.

The best time to visit is during dry months when trails are clear and weather remains more stable. Visitors should bring sturdy footwear and layered clothing, as conditions can change rapidly at different elevations.

The area is home to rare animals like snow leopards and red pandas, which are difficult to spot in these mountains. The diverse plant life with many flowering plants also makes different sections of the route look completely different from one another.
