Salasungo, Mountain summit in Ganesh Himal, Nepal and Tibet.
Salasungo is a mountain standing at 7,043 meters between the Burhi Gandaki and Trisuli Gandaki valleys within the Ganesh Himal range. It forms a natural border point between Nepal and the Tibetan region of China.
The first ascent was achieved in 1979 by a team led by Japanese climber Hideo Ogura along with Nepalese Sherpas Pemba Tshering and Dawa Norbu. This accomplishment marked a significant milestone in the exploration of this remote peak.
The mountain has different names depending on which culture and region you ask, including Ganesh III, Sangjing Ri, Tsala Sungo, Chaglasumgo, and Kang Lombo. This variety of names reflects its location on the border between Nepal and Tibet.
Climbers need permits from both Nepalese and Chinese authorities, along with strong experience in rock, snow, and ice climbing. Routes here are demanding and require careful planning plus solid physical preparation.
Earlier surveys recorded the height at 7,150 meters before modern measurements in the 1990s established the current recognized elevation of 7,043 meters. This correction shows how measurements of remote mountain peaks can shift over time.
