Chichawatni, human settlement in Pakistan
Chichawatni is a town in Sahiwal District, Punjab, shaped by fertile land and market activity. The center is surrounded by fields growing cotton, wheat, corn, and various fruits and vegetables, while the main road bustles with market stalls and shops serving local and traveling traders.
The region was ruled from the 7th century onward by various powers including the Rajput Bhatti dynasties, Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi, the Mughal Empire, and Sikhs. After 1947, many Muslim families arrived from India and settled here, bringing new traditions to the area.
The town is shaped by Punjabi speakers, with Urdu also common in schools and shops. Wedding halls along the main road serve as gathering places where families celebrate special occasions and share traditional meals with guests.
The town is located on the Grand Trunk Road, about 28 miles from Sahiwal city and accessible by car, taxi, or train. The best time to visit is from September through November when temperatures are comfortable, as summers become extremely hot.
The town hosts one of Pakistan's largest livestock markets, where thousands of cattle and buffalo are traded from mid to late in each month. Kabaddi is a popular sport here, with a floodlit stadium where local tournaments are regularly held.
