Manora Point Lighthouse, Maritime lighthouse in Manora Island, Pakistan
Manora Point Lighthouse is a maritime structure featuring a white and red striped conical masonry tower that rises 38 meters above Manora Island. The construction includes a lantern platform that overlooks the Arabian Sea entrance to Karachi Harbor.
The lighthouse was built in 1889 during British colonial rule to replace an earlier 1851 structure and guide growing maritime traffic to Karachi Harbor. This reconstruction reflected the port's increasing importance for international trade.
The lighthouse stands near St Paul's Church on Manora Island, an area that ancient Greek records identify as part of the historical city of Debal. The location has deep connections to maritime trade and seafaring traditions that remain visible in the surrounding structures.
Visitors can reach the platform to enjoy broad views over the harbor and Arabian Sea, particularly during clear weather. The location on Manora Island is accessible on foot or by local transport, and the best times to visit are early morning or late afternoon.
A hyperradiant Fresnel lens installed in 1908 projects light across roughly 26 nautical miles and directs vessels toward the harbor entrance. This optical system is remarkably long-lasting and remains one of the most effective navigation aids along Pakistan's coast.
