Balaklava Raion

Rajon Balaklawa is an administrative district covering the southern part of Sevastopol, spanning a varied landscape with multiple settlements and villages. The area includes both coastal sections and inland terrain, with a mix of residential neighborhoods and open land.

The district arose from ancient Greek settlements that developed along the southern coast over many centuries. The main city of Balaklava gained strategic importance during the Crimean War period.

The region maintains a diverse population of 34,787 residents spread across multiple settlements, including the central city of Inkerman with 10,452 inhabitants.

The district contains a Cold War-era submarine base carved into a hillside, which operated in secrecy for decades and now welcomes visitors as a museum. Many travelers pass through the region unaware of this remarkable underground installation hidden nearby.
