Surat Thani, Administrative province in southern Thailand.
Surat Thani Province covers 12,891 square kilometers with coastal plains in the east and limestone mountains of the Phuket range in the west.
The province was previously under the influence of the Srivijaya kingdom from the 3rd to 13th centuries, with Chaiya as a major administrative center.
The provincial seal depicts the Buddhist pagoda of Wat Phra Borommathat Chaiya, while Rafflesia kerrii serves as the provincial flower of Surat Thani.
The province contains 19 districts subdivided into 131 subdistritos and 1,028 villages, with a population density of 81 inhabitants per square kilometer.
The Tapi and Phum Duang rivers merge at Tha Kham, forming the Nai Bang delta with numerous canals and mangrove-covered islands.
