Prachuap Khiri Khan, Western province and administrative division in Thailand.
Prachuap Khiri Khan is a province and administrative division in western Thailand extending along the Gulf of Thailand. Eight districts comprise 48 subdistricts and 388 villages spread between the coast and mountain ranges.
The provincial capital was rebuilt after the fall of Ayutthaya Kingdom in 1767. The current name, meaning city in the mountains, was given in 1855.
The provincial seal displays Kuha Karuhas Pavilion inside Praya Nakorn Cave, marking the visit of King Chulalongkorn during his reign. This royal landmark continues to connect the region with the monarchy and shapes its public image today.
The region lies roughly 240 kilometers (150 miles) south of Bangkok and can be reached by road and rail connections. Hua Hin Airport in the northern part of the province offers additional transport links for travelers.
At the narrowest point of Thailand, the Isthmus of Kra, the distance between the Gulf of Thailand and Myanmar measures just 13 kilometers (8 miles). This land bridge historically served as an important trade route between the two sea coasts.
