Ankara Parachute Tower

Ankara Parachute Tower, Parachute tower in Altındağ, Turkey

The Ankara Parachute Tower is a 41-meter steel structure featuring three balconies with jump platforms connected by stairs and an elevator. The facility includes a double-weight winch system at the top for controlled descents during training exercises.

The structure was built between 1935 and 1937 under architect Bedri Tümay and opened on October 28, 1937. Its construction reflected Turkey's growing investment in aviation and military training during that period.

The tower is housed within the Museum of the Turkish Aeronautical Association and demonstrates how aviation training once took place in Turkey. Visitors can see how parachute jumping was taught and practiced as both a military and sporting skill.

The tower is accessible year-round and features an elevator for easy vertical access, making it suitable for most visitors. Clear weather days offer the best conditions to see the surrounding landscape from the viewing platforms.

In 1989, the Ankara Cultural and Natural Heritage Preservation Board registered the structure for protection due to its architectural significance. This recognition reflects how the building has come to represent an important chapter in Turkey's design and engineering history.
