Alishan House, hotel in Alishan Township, Taiwan
Alishan House is a hotel in the mountain town of Alishan in Chiayi County, Taiwan, situated about 2200 meters above sea level. The building has two main sections called the Historical House and the Modern House, both furnished with modern comforts and offering views of the forest and surrounding mountains.
Alishan was originally known for its rich forests and later developed as a tourist destination with the construction of the Alishan Forest Railway over a hundred years ago. This historic railway connected the mountain area to the lowlands and shaped the region's development to this day.
The name Alishan comes from indigenous language meaning 'high' or 'mountain'. In the town, you can watch people gathering to drink tea, share local food, and chat about the best trails and viewpoints.
The hotel is a short walk from Alishan bus station and is easily accessible on foot. From here guests can catch the train to other sights, and luggage lockers are available at the bus and train stations for those wanting to explore the area first.
Since 2015, the hotel has stopped providing disposable items like toothbrushes and slippers, encouraging guests to bring their own. This environmental practice reflects the hotel's commitment to protecting the natural surroundings of the mountain region.
