Dragon Khan, Steel roller coaster in PortAventura World, Spain
Dragon Khan is a steel roller coaster at PortAventura World in Spain, recognizable by its red framework and numerous inversions. The track leads through eight complete flips including loops, corkscrews and turns across nearly 1300 meters.
The ride opened in May 1995 and held the record for the most inversions on a roller coaster worldwide at that time. It kept this leading position until another coaster opened in 2002.
The name comes from an old Chinese story about a prince who changed into a creature with special powers. The color scheme and design of the structure recall motifs from the Far East, visible throughout the park.
The ride reaches speeds above 100 kilometers per hour and relies on rapid motion with sharp changes in direction. Anyone prone to dizziness or with physical concerns should skip this experience.
The structure combines eight different types of inversions, including a zero-gravity roll that creates the sensation of weightlessness. The steep drop of 49 meters (about 160 feet) after the first climb makes for a particularly intense start to the ride.
