Templo del Fuego, Walk-through attraction in PortAventura Park, Spain.
Templo del Fuego is a walk-through show at PortAventura Park in Spain, staged inside a building shaped like a Maya temple. The audience moves through several rooms where fire effects, pyrotechnics, and live performers take turns at center stage.
The attraction opened in 2001 when the park was run by Universal Studios and received the Thea Award in 2003 for outstanding achievement in entertainment design. The Thea Award is one of the most respected recognitions in the theme park industry.
The building is designed to look like a Maya temple, with carved stone-like surfaces and ritual fire as the centerpiece of the show. Visitors walk through spaces that reference Maya ceremony, making the cultural references visible at every turn.
Shows run throughout the day at short intervals, so you can fit one in without too much planning. Since each show fits a limited number of visitors, arriving a few minutes early gives you a better chance of getting in on the first try.
The attraction cost 30 million euros to build, making it one of the most expensive single installations the park had ever commissioned at the time. A large part of that budget went into developing the pyrotechnic and stage systems built specifically for this show.
