Red Force, Steel roller coaster in PortAventura World, Salou, Spain.
Red Force is a steel roller coaster in PortAventura World in Salou that rises 112 meters and runs across 880 meters of track with dark grey rails and red support structures. The train climbs almost vertically, twists slightly at the top and then plunges back down in a steep arc.
The installation began operations on April 7, 2017, and became the centerpiece of Ferrari Land, the new area in PortAventura World. It has remained the fastest roller coaster in Europe since then and has drawn visitors from many countries since its opening.
The coaster takes its name from the paint tone used on Ferrari racing cars, echoed throughout the PortAventura theme area with engines, workshops and display cases. Families and teenagers often wait in long lines because the fast launch and steep descent after the summit become the high point of many park visits.
The coaster runs with two trains, each containing three cars with six rows, and can carry 1,200 people per hour. Teenagers above a certain height are allowed to ride, and the waiting line often becomes very long on peak days.
Linear synchronous motors accelerate riders from zero to 180 kilometers per hour (112 miles per hour) within five seconds, with supercapacitors managing energy distribution. This technology eliminates chain lifts or compressed air and creates an almost silent launch.
