Furius Baco, Steel roller coaster in PortAventura Park, Salou, Spain
Furius Baco is a steel roller coaster in PortAventura Park, Salou, Spain, launching riders with hydraulic propulsion in under four seconds. The seats mount on either side of the track, and the layout runs through turns and an inversion close to the ground.
The ride opened in June 2007 as the first hydraulic launch installation at this Spanish amusement park. It introduced the technology to propel trains to top speed without a traditional lift hill.
The name refers to a Roman god of wine, and the station resembles a wine cellar fitted with laboratory equipment. Visitors walk through the themed area with barrels and experimental apparatus before boarding.
Riders between 140 and 195 centimeters (4.6 and 6.4 feet) in height may board, and loose items must be stored in lockers at the entrance. The coaster typically runs with two or three trains depending on crowd levels in the park.
The ride holds the record as the fastest roller coaster with an inversion, accelerating from a standstill in three and a half seconds. The seats outside the track bring hands and feet close to the landscape, often only centimeters above the ground.
