Donostialdea

Donostialdea is an administrative region in Gipuzkoa comprising eleven municipalities, including San Sebastian, Errenteria, and Hernani. The territory encompasses interconnected valleys and river landscapes that link various towns with the coastal city.

The territory developed around the lower basin of the Urumea River, connecting coastal and inland communities across centuries. These connections enabled trade and exchange between settlements, shaping how the region functioned as an interconnected system.

The region maintains strong Basque identity through seasonal cider house celebrations from January to April, when local producers open their doors to guests. People gather in these traditional spaces to share food, drink, and community moments together.

The San Sebastian Metro, part of the Euskotren network, connects all municipalities through regular train services. Visitors can easily move between towns while experiencing the landscape and communities along the way.

Three major rivers - Oiartzun, Urumea, and Oria - run through the territory in a pattern that shapes communities and ecosystems. This water system creates a natural structure that visitors notice repeatedly while exploring.
