Vonkaputous, Water roller coaster in Linnanmäki, Finland
Vonkaputous was a hybrid coaster at Linnanmäki amusement park that merged water ride features with steel track sections. Riders traveled through a steep 24-meter vertical drop along a 330-meter route in boats designed to seat ten people.
The ride opened in 2001 and operated through 2017 at the Helsinki amusement park. Its design came from Premier Rides, a manufacturer that produced only two water-propelled coasters of this type globally.
The name Vonkaputous reflected Finnish linguistic traditions, while the ride design incorporated elements of Nordic engineering and entertainment preferences.
The ride operated during warmer months from May through October when the park was busier. Visitors should plan their visit during these months and follow safety instructions before boarding the boats.
The ride used a rare water-propulsion technology found on only one other coaster anywhere in the world. This technical feature made it a notable rarity in the amusement park landscape.
