Vuoristorata, Wooden roller coaster in Linnanmäki, Finland.
Vuoristorata is a wooden roller coaster in Linnanmäki that spans 960 meters and reaches a height of 24 meters. The ride takes about two minutes and reaches speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour.
This roller coaster was built in 1951 and was the tallest structure of its kind in Europe at that time. It was specifically developed and opened for the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki.
The name Vuoristorata comes from Finnish and means mountain track, reflecting the local connection to the physical sensation of riding through its course. Visitors encounter this traditional term displayed and spoken throughout the park.
Visitors must be at least 140 centimeters tall to ride alone, while children between 120 and 140 centimeters need an adult companion aged 15 or older. It helps to check current conditions before riding, as weather and maintenance can affect operation.
Each train is operated by a brakemaster who manually controls the speed, a traditional method used by only seven roller coasters worldwide. This hand-operated technique adds to the ride's classic character.
