The white church with its painted facade stands at 1209 meters elevation, marking the end of the road and beginning of mountain trails.

The church structure was reconstructed in 1699 by stone mason Jean de Vougniaz following his completion of the Saint-Gervais church renovation project.

From the thirteenth through early nineteenth centuries, this church served as the central parish for valley residents and remains a Marian pilgrimage site.

The church maintains open access throughout the year, offering free individual visits and guided tours upon request with wheelchair accessibility assistance.

The church's altarpiece underwent modifications between the late eighteenth and mid-nineteenth centuries, with its original Coronation of the Virgin design discovered in 1998.
