Tête du Véleray

Tête du Véleray is a mountain summit at 2452 meters elevation situated within the Beaufortain range. From this point, visitors can see across the Arly and Montjoie valleys and observe neighboring peaks in the surrounding massif.

For centuries, local mountain guides relied on this ridge as a landmark for navigating routes between valleys. The location became established as a traditional passing point for those crossing the high terrain.

The name reflects the local terrain, and the ski facilities serve as a year-round gathering point for people drawn to high mountain life. Visitors encounter a community deeply connected to these alpine surroundings.

The site is served by a ski lift that accesses a challenging black run connecting to the larger Contamines resort. Conditions vary significantly by season, so visitors should prepare with appropriate gear for their chosen time of year.

A prominent ridge system links three adjacent peaks, creating a hiking route where walkers remain on the high crest throughout. This traverse appeals to experienced hikers because it maintains continuous open views across the surrounding terrain.
