Pointe des Aires, Mountain summit in Hautes-Pyrénées, France.
Pointe des Aires is a mountain summit at 3028 meters elevation in the eastern section of Cirque de Troumouse between two passes. The massif consists of limestone and forms part of a larger mountain complex in the French High Pyrenees.
Early mountaineers in the 19th century discovered and documented this summit during their systematic survey of the Pyrenees. These explorations opened the region to further visits and scientific study.
The summit sits in an area that herders have used and traveled through for generations. Local communities in the surrounding valleys maintain their connection to these mountains and still visit them regularly.
The summit is reachable via the Cirque de Troumouse road but requires full mountaineering equipment and good physical fitness. Visitors should expect challenging terrain and rough conditions at altitude.
From the top, visitors can observe the striking limestone formations of the massif shaped by millions of years of erosion. The few remaining glaciers in the region are also visible from here and show signs of the long climate history.
