New Town

New Town is a planned settlement east of Kolkata with clearly defined zones for housing, commerce, and office parks. The entire area is systematically organized with wide roads and green spaces separating different functional zones.

Development started in the late 1990s as a response to growing population pressure around Kolkata. The project was one of the region's most ambitious urban planning efforts aimed at providing modern housing for millions.

The town functions as a home to people from many different regions who bring their own traditions and ways of living. Public spaces like parks and community centers serve as gathering points where residents naturally come together.

Visitors will find a modern road network that is easy to navigate, as zones are clearly separated. Plan for longer walking distances since different areas are spread apart from each other.

The area was among the first in Asia to offer WiFi access on public roads. This innovative feature helped position the settlement as a technology hub.
