La Ronde, Amusement park on Saint Helen's Island, Canada
La Ronde is an amusement park on Île Sainte-Hélène in Montreal that spreads roller coasters, carousels and family rides around Dolphin Lake. The site includes several themed zones with attractions for different age groups and rest areas between rides.
The park opened in 1967 as the entertainment zone of Expo 67 world fair and offered visitors from around the world rides between pavilions. Six Flags took over operations in 2001 and expanded the ride collection.
Fireworks competitions bring teams from different countries to choreograph displays above the water throughout summer. Visitors watch the pyrotechnic shows from pathways or gather along the lakeshore for evening performances.
Reaching the island takes metro line to Jean-Drapeau station or ferry from the harbor. Visitors find parking near the bridge and should wear comfortable shoes as walking between attractions covers considerable ground.
The wooden coaster Le Monstre runs riders on two parallel tracks side by side so carts meet during the ride. This double-tracked wooden construction remains the longest of its kind on the continent.
