Canada's Wonderland is an amusement park in Vaughan with 18 roller coasters and an attached water park called Splash Works. The facility spreads across a large site with different themed zones and rides for visitors of all ages.
The park opened on May 23, 1981, as the first major theme park project in Canada through a partnership between Taft Broadcasting and Great-West Life Assurance. Over the decades, the site changed ownership several times and expanded with additional ride areas.
International Street, the entrance boulevard, is named for the fountain where four children poured water from the Arctic, Pacific, Atlantic and Great Lakes regions at the 1981 opening. Celebration Canada, a month-long Canada Day festival, runs through the season alongside Halloween Haunt and WinterFest.
The main season runs from late April through early September, with select weekends in fall and winter afterward. Season passes offer entry on all operating days and may include discounts within the park.
Wonder Mountain, the park's centrepiece at the top of International Street, was chosen over a replica Eiffel Tower like those at sister parks Kings Island and Kings Dominion. Its interior pathways to a look-out point have been closed since the early years.
