Thunder Run, Steel roller coaster in Canada's Wonderland, Ontario
Thunder Run is a steel roller coaster at Canada's Wonderland in Ontario. The ride travels both inside and outside Wonder Mountain along a double helix track design that covers approximately 330 meters.
This coaster opened in 1981 as Blauer Enzian before being renamed Thunder Run and integrated into Wonder Mountain in 1986. That reconstruction transformed it into both an indoor and outdoor experience.
The mine train theme of Thunder Run incorporates special effects, including a dragon named Herman, representing the industrial heritage of Ontario.
Children need to be at least 102 centimeters tall to ride, and those under 117 centimeters require an adult companion. The coaster reaches speeds of about 64 kilometers per hour.
This coaster uses an electric motor to power the trains instead of the traditional chain lift system. This allows each run to complete two full circuits.
