Vaughan, Suburban municipality in Greater Toronto Area, Canada.
Vaughan is a suburban municipality in the Greater Toronto Area, spreading north of Toronto and linking residential areas, shopping zones, and business parks. The cityscape shifts between row houses, detached homes, and taller buildings in the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre.
The settlement began in 1792 as a township and took its name from a British diplomat involved in negotiations after American independence. During the late 20th century, the area grew from rural farms into a major municipality within the Toronto region.
Families from Italy, Russia, and many other countries live side by side in residential areas, where the language you hear changes from one neighborhood to the next. In shops and on the streets, people speak several languages daily, shaping everyday life across the municipality.
A subway line connects the centre directly to Toronto, and several bus routes cross residential and business areas. Drivers find wide roads and parking at most shopping centres and public buildings.
The country's largest amusement park stands here and draws millions of visitors each year who ride the roller coasters and water attractions. In summer, part of the park transforms into a water playground with slides and wave pools.
