Wu Kai Sha station, MTR metro station
Wu Kai Sha station is an elevated metro station on the Tuen Ma Line in Sha Tin District, serving as the northeastern terminus of that line. It features two platforms on a single island with two tracks and multiple exits connecting to nearby residential estates, the Lake Silver housing development, and the local village center.
The station opened in December 2004 originally as Lee On station as part of a project to connect Ma On Shan with other parts of Hong Kong. It was later renamed and integrated into the expanded Tuen Ma Line in 2021 after modernization work enabled longer trains and installed automatic safety gates.
The station takes its name from the local place called Wu Kai Sha, meaning 'blackstream sands', reflecting the area's past. Today residents and visitors use it as a starting point to reach nearby hiking trails and beaches in the district.
The station is equipped with lifts and ramps to assist those with mobility needs, and has clear multilingual signage along with customer service counters. Trains arrive every few minutes during peak hours, while off-peak times see longer intervals between services.
The station was originally named after the nearby Lee On Estate but did not retain that name, showing how place names in Hong Kong can shift over time. The island platform design allows trains to run in opposite directions and open doors on different sides, a practical feature visitors often overlook.
