Shigatse

Xigazê spreads across 182,000 square kilometers of varied terrain, including mountains, valleys, and basins, with an average elevation exceeding 4,000 meters.

The region, historically known as Tsang, became a prefecture-level city in December 2014, marking its administrative status equivalent to Lhasa.

The Tashilhunpo Monastery, located in Samzhubzê District, stands as the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama and maintains centuries of Tibetan religious traditions.

The Lhasa-Shigatse Railway connects the city to Tibet's capital, while the Shigatse Peace Airport provides air transportation options for residents and visitors.

Five mountain peaks in the region rise above 8,000 meters, including Mount Qomolangma, making it part of the highest elevation zone on Earth.
