Diving Coaster, Steel roller coaster in Songjiang, Shanghai, China
The Diving Coaster is a steel hypercoaster at Happy Valley amusement park in Songjiang, Shanghai, reaching a height of 65 meters (213 ft). It features a vertical 90-degree drop followed by an Immelmann loop, and each train carries 30 passengers across three cars arranged in a single row of 10.
Bolliger & Mabillard, the Swiss coaster manufacturer, designed this ride as a replica of SheiKra at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay in the United States. Happy Valley Shanghai opened it to the public on August 16, 2009.
The Diving Coaster sits inside Happy Valley Shanghai, one of the most visited amusement parks in the country. Rides of this kind draw large crowds on weekends and holidays, when families and young visitors fill the queues.
This ride is not recommended for people with heart conditions, back problems, or a strong fear of heights, and loose items should be secured before boarding. Arriving early in the day or on a weekday helps avoid the longest queues.
At the top of the drop the train stops briefly, leaving riders hanging over the edge for a few seconds before the fall begins. Shortly after, the track passes through a water splash element inside a dedicated tunnel, which can leave riders unexpectedly wet.
