Songjiang University Town, Educational complex in Songjiang district, Shanghai, China
Songjiang University Town is an educational complex in Shanghai's Songjiang district that brings together seven higher education institutions, including Shanghai International Studies University and Donghua University. The campuses occupy a vast area and share common infrastructure like transit connections, roads, and support facilities.
This site emerged around 2000 as part of Shanghai's strategy to expand higher education access and capacity, with main infrastructure completed in the mid-2000s. The project transformed Songjiang from a less developed area into a major educational hub.
Students from across China gather here, creating a dynamic social environment where different academic disciplines meet and interact daily. Walking through the campus you see this blend of young people in study groups, dining areas, and outdoor spaces.
The area is large and spread out, so using the Shanghai Metro Line 9 makes getting around easy, with a dedicated station and connections to many bus routes. Comfortable shoes are a good idea for exploring, and you will find cafes and food areas throughout where you can rest and eat.
The seven universities operate independently yet share roads, transit hubs, and utility networks, making it China's largest tertiary education complex on a contiguous campus. This setup allows students to move between institutions and participate in cross-campus activities.
