Star House, building in Hong Kong, China
Star House is a shopping center in Yau Tsim Mong District overlooking Victoria Harbour with nineteen floors offering various retail and dining options. The building houses shops selling Chinese arts and crafts, a bookstore, specialty tea retailers, restaurants on the second and third floors, and a McDonald's in the basement.
The original Star House was built in 1923 as a warehouse for a shipping company and demolished in 1963 to make way for the current structure. The new building was completed in 1967 and housed the Hong Kong Museum of History briefly during the 1970s and early 1980s.
The building houses shops selling Chinese arts and crafts, where visitors can find traditional calligraphy supplies and handmade items reflecting local artistic traditions. Tea specialty shops throughout the mall offer tastings of traditional Chinese varieties, connecting visitors to centuries-old beverage customs.
The center is located within a five to ten minute walk from Tsim Sha Tsui MTR Station, with public buses also serving the nearby area for convenient access. The building opens early in the morning and stays open until late evening, making it accessible for shopping, sightseeing, or casual strolling.
The Cambodian consulate operates from the sixth floor of the building, serving the Cambodian community in Hong Kong. This unusual combination of retail, offices, and diplomatic services reflects how the city blends different functions within single structures.
