Aïdour

Aïdour is a mountain summit located in Oran District in western Algeria. The peak rises above the surrounding coastal landscape and is composed of layered sedimentary rock formations that give it its distinctive geological character.

The mountain played a strategic role in Oran's past, serving as a lookout point for various rulers and military forces throughout different periods. From Ottoman times through French colonial rule until 1962, it held importance for observation and defense purposes.

This summit serves as a gathering place where local people come together to spend time outdoors and enjoy views of the region. The mountain is used by residents as a natural meeting point for social occasions throughout the year.

Plan your visit for early morning or late afternoon when conditions are most favorable and the views are clearest. The hike from the western side of Oran takes roughly two hours, so bring water and wear suitable footwear for the rocky terrain.

Natural caves within the mountain's interior serve as a home for several species of North African bats, creating an ecosystem that many visitors overlook. These underground chambers are a hidden geological feature that adds another layer of interest to the site.
