Hassan Pasha Mosque, Ottoman mosque in Oran, Algeria.
Hassan Pasha Mosque is an Islamic place of worship in central Oran with a single minaret rising above surrounding buildings. The structure displays Islamic architectural features throughout and stands out prominently within the urban landscape.
It was built in 1796 on the orders of Baba Hassan, Pasha of Algiers, to mark the end of Spanish rule in the region. The structure later served military purposes when French forces took control after 1830.
The interior features traditional Islamic design with geometric patterns and detailed decorative work that reflect local Muslim artistic traditions. These ornamental elements appear throughout the space and show how the community expressed its faith through craftsmanship.
The building has been closed to the public since 2010 with no current plans to reopen. Visitors can view it from the outside, which is enough to appreciate its striking size and form within the city.
The minaret reaches a notable height of about 56 meters, making it one of the tallest structures in the surrounding area. This scale allows the building to stand distinctly apart from the residential buildings around it.
