Stade Ahmed Zabana, Soccer stadium in El Hamri district, Oran, Algeria.
Stade Ahmed Zabana is a football stadium in Oran, Algeria, built with concrete structures and an artificial turf pitch that can hold around 40,000 spectators. A large main grandstand runs along one side of the field, with additional seating sections completing the ring around the pitch.
The stadium opened on May 5, 1957, and was later named after Ahmed Zabana, an Algerian fighter who was executed during the independence struggle. His name was given to the stadium after independence as a way of honoring those who died in the liberation war.
The stadium is the home ground of MC Oran, one of the most followed football clubs in Algeria. On match days, the stands fill with fans who sing, wave flags, and create a charged energy that defines local football life.
The stadium is located close to the center of Oran and can be reached from several entrances around the perimeter. On event days, it is worth arriving early, as the surrounding streets become busy well before kick-off.
In 1965, the stadium hosted a friendly match between Algeria and Brazil in which Pelé played. It was one of the first major international games held here after independence, drawing attention far beyond the city.
