Aswan Governorate

The Aswan Governorate extends across 62,726 square kilometers, encompassing the Nile River floodplain and forming the southernmost boundary with Sudan.

The region contained ancient Egyptian frontier defenses at the First Cataract, marking the traditional southern border of Egyptian territory since the Old Kingdom period.

The governorate maintains five UNESCO World Heritage sites within the Nubian Monuments collection, including temples and archaeological structures along Lake Nasser.

The region operates through six administrative districts, with the city of Aswan functioning as the capital and main transportation center for southern Egypt.

The territory includes Lake Nasser, created by the Aswan High Dam, which spans 150 miles southward through desert landscapes toward the Sudanese border.
