Temple of Derr, Egyptian temple in New Amada, Egypt
The Temple of Derr features two hypostyle halls carved into rock, containing chambers with statues of Egyptian deities and Ramesses II.
Constructed during the 19th Dynasty by Pharaoh Ramesses II between 1279 and 1213 BCE, this temple stands as a monument of ancient Nubian architecture.
The temple walls display detailed reliefs and decorations dedicated to the worship of Re-Harakhte, Amun-Re, and Ptah, reflecting Egyptian religious practices.
Located at coordinates 22.7325 latitude and 32.262222 longitude, the temple requires advance planning for visits due to its position near Lake Nasser.
In 1964, engineers dismantled and relocated the entire temple structure to protect it from rising waters during the construction of the Aswan High Dam.
