Qustul, Archaeological cemetery in Aswan Governorate, Egypt.

Qustul is an archaeological site in Lower Nubia with burial grounds from multiple time periods that originally sat on the eastern bank of the Nile. The location contained mud brick structures and numerous artifacts before it was submerged beneath Lake Nasser's waters.

The site developed during the early A-Group culture and was later used for burials from the New Kingdom and X-Group periods. This layering shows how this location remained important as a burial place across thousands of years.

The burial grounds reveal how early communities in the region honored their dead and what possessions they believed were needed in the afterlife. Grave goods found here show us the everyday objects and beliefs that mattered most to these ancient people.

Since the site lies beneath Lake Nasser's waters, visitors cannot directly view it, but excavated finds are displayed in Egyptian museums. Visiting these collections offers the best way to learn about this location and the people who lived there.

The renowned Qustul incense burner from the early period displays royal symbols of Egyptian power rarely seen elsewhere from this early time. This object is among the earliest examples of how power and rulership were depicted in the Nile Valley.
