Pyramid of Seila, Step pyramid in Faiyum Governorate, Egypt.
The Pyramid of Seila is a step pyramid made of limestone located in Faiyum Governorate. The structure rises roughly 7 meters with base sides of about 25 meters, displaying four distinct stepped levels.
This structure was built around 2600 BC under Pharaoh Snefru as part of a cluster of seven step structures. The group connected the Faiyum Oasis with the Nile Valley and reflects early Egyptian construction techniques.
Archaeological excavations in 1987 revealed fragments of an offering table and two steles with inscriptions, indicating religious ceremonies took place at this location.
Visiting this archaeological site requires a permit from the Antiquities Authority in Faiyum. The location is remote, so arrange transportation in advance and bring plenty of water, especially in warmer months.
This pyramid tilts roughly 12 degrees from true north, deviating from the standard alignment of most Egyptian pyramids. It also lacks the internal burial chambers typically found in similar structures.
