Labyrinth of Egypt, Archaeological complex near Pyramid of Amenemhat III at Hawara, Egypt.
The Egyptian Labyrinth stretches across 28,000 square meters, containing thousands of rooms arranged in intricate corridors and chambers beneath the desert sands.
Constructed around 1800 BC during Amenemhat III's reign, this structure served as a mortuary temple complex connected to the nearby pyramid at Hawara.
Ancient texts by Herodotus, Strabo, and Diodorus Siculus describe the Labyrinth as a monumental achievement surpassing the architectural scale of Egyptian pyramids.
The entrance area remains submerged under water from the Abdul Wahbi canal, limiting access for researchers and visitors to this archaeological site.
Ground penetrating technology used in 2008 revealed an extensive grid of underground structures previously thought destroyed during Ptolemaic times.
