TT9, Ancient tomb in Deir el-Medina, Egypt
TT9 is a decorated tomb located in the Theban Necropolis on the west bank of the Nile near Luxor. The interior contains multiple painted chambers with scenes of daily work, religious rituals, and family members of the tomb owner.
This tomb was built during the 20th Dynasty around 1186-1069 BCE for a highly skilled craftsman named Amenmose who worked on royal monuments. It represents the burial grounds created for the most talented artisans of that era.
The painted walls show how skilled artisans like the tomb owner were respected members of the community at Deir el-Medina. The scenes depict work and religious duties that defined their social position among the craftspeople.
This site is located on the west bank of the Nile and is most easily reached from Luxor. Visiting with a local guide or organized tour helps you understand the layout and access all the painted chambers properly.
The tomb owner Amenmose held the rare dual role of master craftsman and Charmer of Scorpions in his community. This position suggests he possessed knowledge of remedies for dangerous animals and combined medical skills with his artistic work.
