WV25, Archaeological tomb in Valley of the Kings, Egypt

WV25 is an archaeological tomb located in the Valley of the Kings featuring an entrance that opens into an unfinished sloping passage carved through limestone. The structure extends approximately 13 meters deep with architectural elements that remain incomplete.

Italian explorer Giovanni Belzoni discovered this tomb in 1817 and found several mummies from later periods inside. The site may have been intended as a burial location before plans shifted due to changes in royal succession or religious practices.

This tomb reflects choices made about where and how the royal dead should rest in the remote valley. The design shows how builders adapted rock formations to create secure burial spaces away from the city.

The tomb is not open to regular visitors and can only be accessed by research teams. Those interested in archaeological work should ask about ongoing projects and documentation efforts at the site.

A foundation pit uncovered in 2001 contained no materials, suggesting that earlier people had already removed what was stored there. This discovery hints at how the site was used and reused over time.
