Wadi Degla

Wadi Degla is a limestone valley carved through the desert near Cairo with steep cliffs running along its length. The protected site preserves a mix of open terrain and rocky passages where visitors can walk and explore the natural landscape.

The valley took its current form through geological processes over millions of years, with evidence of ancient marine life preserved in the rock layers. These formations reveal how the desert region has changed since ancient times.

The protected area functions as an environmental education center where visitors learn about desert ecosystems and local wildlife conservation efforts.

The site is best visited during cooler months when temperatures are more comfortable for walking and exploring the trails. Bring plenty of water and sun protection, as the open terrain offers little shade throughout the valley.

The valley serves as a refuge for endangered turtle species and numerous reptiles that have adapted to desert conditions. Visitors who walk quietly through the terrain may encounter these creatures in their natural habitat.
