Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Fuensanta, Catholic sanctuary in Algezares, Spain.
The Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Fuensanta is a baroque church located in the foothills of the Carrascoy mountain range, roughly 6 kilometers from Murcia's center. The building features an ornate facade and an interior decorated with religious artworks and a modern altar screen.
Construction of the church began in 1694, with the facade completed in 1705 under architect Toribio Martínez de la Vega. The building reflects early 18th-century baroque architectural style and represents an important example of that period in the region.
The sanctuary is dedicated to the region's patron saint and draws people who come to pray and seek spiritual connection. It has become a focal point for local religious devotion and reflects the deep faith traditions of the area.
The sanctuary sits in the hills and is reachable by car from Murcia city in roughly 15 minutes. There is parking available for visitors and paths around the chapel for exploring the surroundings.
The elaborate facade was designed by renowned artist Jaime Bort and carved by sculptor José Balaguer, making it a special example of regional craftsmanship. Inside, the original altar screen was lost during conflict and later replaced by a new work created by local artists, showing the sanctuary's resilience.
