Sunehri Masjid, 18th-century mosque in Chandni Chowk, Delhi, India
The Sunehri Masjid stands elevated above street level with three bulbous gilt domes and slender minarets rising 60 feet into the Delhi skyline.
In 1739, Persian ruler Nadir Shah used this mosque as his command post during the invasion of Delhi, directing the plunder of the city.
The mosque houses the Madrasa Aminia, established in 1897 by Islamic scholar Amin al-Din before its relocation to Kashmiri Gate in 1917.
The mosque features three prayer chambers containing numerous Quran copies and maintains specific prayer schedules throughout the day.
The structure incorporates green flower-shaped patterns on its pillars and copper-plated domes, which were later covered with sandstone in 1852.
