Ghalib ki Haveli, Memorial museum in Ballimaran, Old Delhi, India
Ghalib ki Haveli is a traditional 19th-century residence in Ballimaran, Old Delhi, now serving as a museum. The rooms are arranged around a central courtyard and display furniture, clothing, and writing instruments from that era.
A poet lived here during the final nine years of his life, writing many of his late works in these rooms. The building was later converted into a museum to commemorate his literary contribution.
The name honors a poet whose verses are still recited in schools and at cultural gatherings today. Visitors see manuscripts with handwritten poems that preserve the sound and shape of classical Urdu verse.
The museum is near Chawri Bazaar Metro Station and opens Tuesday through Sunday. Admission is free, and the narrow stairs make the upper floor difficult to reach for wheelchair users.
A life-size marble statue stands in the courtyard, surrounded by walls inscribed with verses in traditional calligraphy. The inscriptions show the visual beauty of the script as much as the literary content of the poems.
