Parco naturale regionale della Lessinia, Regional natural park in Verona and Vicenza provinces, Italy
Parco naturale regionale della Lessinia is a protected area spanning the provinces of Verona and Vicenza, combining Alpine limestone landscapes with fossil remains and extensive hiking trails. The territory covers roughly 820 square kilometers with diverse elevations and geological formations throughout.
In prehistoric times, the area provided hunters with game and flint for making tools. Later, Germanic peoples arrived in the 10th century and transformed the region's approach to farming and forestry.
The Cimbri, a Germanic people, shaped this region since the 10th century through their settlement patterns and pastoral traditions. Their descendants still work these uplands today, keeping ancestral farming customs alive.
The area is managed by over 120 mountain dairy farms using traditional farming methods and producing Monte Veronese DOP cheese. Visitors will find a well-developed network of hiking trails providing access to various elevations and landscape types.
The upper Lessinia area contains one of the largest continuous pasture zones in the Italian Alps, with gentle slopes and few rocky outcrops. These broad, smooth meadows stand apart from the rockier Alpine regions elsewhere.
